February 2024 · 2 minute read

The Girl Scouts are celebrating their 112th birthday this month with plenty of chances for Scouts and their families to celebrate.

The Girl Scouts’ birthday is March 12 and marks the day in 1912 when Juliette Gordon Low officially registered the group’s first 18 members in Savannah, Georgia. Girl Scout Week starts with Girl Scout Sunday and ends with Girl Scout Sabbath on a Saturday.

2024 Girl Scout Week events include:

• March 10th Girl Scout Sunday

• March 12th Girl Scouts’ Birthday

• March 15th Girl Scout Jummah

• March 16th Girl Scout Sabbath

For 112 years, Girl Scouts have dreamed big. When the organization was founded, women in the United States couldn’t vote and were expected to follow strict social norms. A program that encouraged girls to embrace their unique strengths and create opportunities was a game-changer. Over the past century and then some, that small group of girls has grown to include millions of Girl Scout alumnae.

Girl Scouts has evolved since then, tackling mental health challenges faced by youth, encouraging screen-free outdoor education and preparing girls for career fields underrepresented by women. In programs from coast to coast, Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be themselves as they discover their strengths and meet new challenges.
