THE festive period is expensive for all and by the time you’ve splashed out on Christmas dinner, presents and crackers it can run into hundreds.
So how would you fancy £20,000 gift wrap, crackers containing a £240,000 diamond ring or a £30,000 turkey dinner?
The amazing amounts the super-rich spend on their festive celebrations has been uncovered in a new Channel 5 show, fronted by Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford.
On Eamonn and Ruth: A Million Pound Christmas, the couple reveal X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne once spent £38,000 to pay for two 60ft Christmas trees to be decorated.
They also talk to restaurateur Richard Corrigan who creates a Christmas meal that involved £20 canapes and caviar that costs “a couple of hundred of quid a sliver.”
The Michelin-starred chef tells them; “We are usually closed on Christmas Day, we have been asked to open in the past.
“We would charge £30,000 to open for 12 people just to have lunch.”
Diamond Crackers
Forget the mini pack of cards and the nail clippers, how about a sparkler in your Christmas cracker.
Online retailer VeryFirstTo supplies crackers containing diamond jewellery ranging in value from £85,000 to £240,000.
Brand founder Marcel Knobil told Eamonn and Ruth the ludicrously expensive crackers are handcrafted in paper sourced from India and decorated with goose feathers.
£10k Advent Calendar
While most of us tuck into a Cadbury’s choc as a countdown to Christmas, the
advent calendar on the show has rare whisky miniatures behind each door, costing up to £50 a mouthful.
Michael Vacho of Maverick Drinks reckons the £10,000 price tag is a snip.
He said: “If you bought all the bottles you would be spending over £130,000.”
Extravagant Decorations
The Christmas Decorators are brought in to deck the halls when the billionaires cant; be bothered – and charge a hefty fee for the service.
Most clients spend between £25,000 and £50,000
Director and designer Clark Bearman told the show: “For the top amount your house would look like The North Pole. The craziest request we had was for live penguins.”
Sharon Osbourne brought the company in to decorate all the trees in her driveway and cover the house with icicle light, as well as decking the two trees at a cost of £38,000.
Clark revealed some of his clients are so keen to blow their cash they may not even see their decorations in person.
He said: “Many of the homes of the super-rich we decorate at Christmas aren't even there for Christmas, they will be on their yachts in the Bahamas and just check it on their webcams.”
